the ensemble

The ensemble De Profundis was founded in 1999 by Peter Kooij – known worldwide as baritone and Early Music expert, his artistic work being documented on more than 150 recordings, among which more than 40 are done with the Collegium Vocale Gent under Philippe Herreweghe and almost 50 with the Bach Collegium Japan under Masaaki Suzuki – with the aim to provide an accompaniment for singers that meets the demands of authentic performance practice. Its members are soloists and section leaders of renowned orchestras devoted to this stylistic ideal. The formation varies according to the repertoire which focuses on 17th and 18th century music.

Apart from Peter Kooij himself, “De Profundis” regularly collaborates with artists such as Margot Oitzinger, Hana Blažíková, Robin Blaze, Jan Kobow, Dorothee Mields, Ingeborg Danz or Kai Wessel. Invitations to numerous international festivals, including (Oude Muziek Utrecht, Resonanzen Wien, Vantaa Baroque Helsinki, Festival de Saint-Michel en Thiérache, Bachwoche Ansbach, Kirchheimer Konzertwinter, Bach Festival Arnstadt, Thüringer Bachwochen, Telemann-Sonntagsmusiken Magdeburg, Aschaffenburger Bachtage, Güldener Herbst, Kloster Michaelstein, Ettlinger Schlosskonzerte, concerts in Leipzig, Stuttgart, Paris, Verdun and Avignon, as well as Mexico tours in 2008 and 2009, prove the increasing interest taken in the ensemble.
